Samöens is a traditional alpine village located 70km away from Geneva airport, being one of the most accessible ski station of the French Alps. Its name comes from an ancient medieval expression meaning The Seven Mountains, referring to the seven peaks of the Griffe Massif encircling the town: Cuidex, Vigny, Folly, Oddaz, Bostan, Chardonnière, Freterolles and La Vullie. Samoëns has a tradition of stonemasons which can be witnessed through the Alpine architectural style of many of its buildings. This cute little mountain town is not only a famous ski destination (being part of the Grand Massif ski resort) but also offers attractions for the regular visitor.
