Devastating fire at SSKM hospital in Kolkata, patients evacuated

A devastating fire has broke down at the multi super specialty hospital SSKM in Kolkata. Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the sixth floor of the historic Ronald Ross building, housing several departments of the hospital. 19 fire tenders were pushed into action to douse the fire. The accident could have been major disaster if the patients were not removed to a safe place. West Bengal chief minster who also happens to be state health minister reached the spot and took stock of the situation. However, the incident has raised a serious question on the administration which had made tall promises and issued directives to hospitals and fire brigade after the devastating fire that broke out at AMRI Hospital in 2011 that killed over 90 people. Banerjee has suggested one fire tender should be posted at the SSKM always. Good decision but why the administration wakes up only after such incidents.
