Lee Jeffries, a Bolton-born photographer born in 1971, has garnered international acclaim for his unflinching and emotionally charged portraits of homeless individuals. His work is characterized by its unwavering commitment to capturing the essence of his subjects, presenting them with an intimate and thought-provoking perspective. In 2008, during a chance encounter with a homeless girl in London, Jeffries’s focus shifted to street photography. The homeless individuals residing within and surrounding the Manchester city center became the initial subjects of his photographic endeavors. His body of work now encompasses the homeless populations of Las Vegas, Rome, London, New York, Paris, and Skid Row in Los Angeles. Jeffries’s portraits accentuate the distinctive features of his subjects, including wrinkles, scars, and hair, conveying the hardships and struggles they endure on the streets. Through their weathered skin and intense gazes, these portraits offer a profound and often more impactful narrative than spoken words. Jeffries embarked on a tour with the band Metallica and captured powerful images while on tour.
