A Journey of Discovery! GR10 westward from Le Perthus

A 12-mile hike on the GR10 from Le Perthus to Fort Bellagarde and beyond became a voyage of discovery. We knew what to expect from the fort, having visited it as a family in 2007, but we didn't expect the other finds. A mysterious cave, a medieval abbey built on a Roman ruin and relics of a turbulent past stretching back over 2,000 years. This was a part of the GR10 that I missed in 2016, when I walked from coast-to-coast. So it was an opportunity to find out what I'd missed. And it was hot! When we returned to Le Perthus for cold beverages, the thermometer read 42C.
