It is finally here! After months of anticipation and that tantalizing sneak peek we shared last week, The Lantern City is officially in full glow. While the early birds among us caught a glimpse of the setups being prepped, today is the day the city truly transforms. Every single lantern across our five iconic locations is now open to the public, and for our "Let's Get Nosy" stream, we are going to be your personal tour guides, visiting every single one of them! 🏮✨ So, what exactly is The Lantern City? It’s not just a beautiful art installation; it is one of Vancouver’s most profound annual traditions, born from the heart of LunarFest. Every year, the city invites artists from an incredible range of backgrounds—Indigenous, South Asian, East Asian, and more—to turn the humble lantern into a massive, glowing canvas. For 2026, we are celebrating the Year of the Horse with the theme "Brave the Wind." It’s a call for courage, resilience, and moving through life’s turbulence with grace. 🐎💨 This event is deeply important to the people of Vancouver because it acts as a "visual bridge" between the many cultures that call this unceded territory home. In a city that is always changing, these lanterns remind us of our origins while embracing our future. They aren't just pretty lights; they are stories of migration, childhood memories, and cultural legacy. Seeing the work of Indigenous artists alongside newcomers at places like šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl'e7énḵ Square and Granville Island creates a sense of belonging that you just can't find anywhere else. It’s a moment where our diversity doesn't just exist—it shines. 🤝🏙️ Today, we’re going to get "nosy" with the details of all 36 lanterns! Our route will take us through: Granville Island (Ocean Artworks): Where we explore "Forever Young." 🎡 800 Robson Plaza: Diving into the "We Are a Family" series. 👨👩👧👦 The Vancouver Art Gallery (North Plaza): Where the theme is "Renewal." 🔄 Pendulum Gallery: A cozy indoor stop to see the delicate "Language of Paper" art. 📄 Bentall Centre: Seeing the centerpiece of the "Brave the Wind" collection. 🌬️ It’s going to be a night of bright lights, deep stories, and that classic Vancouver drizzle (which honestly makes the lanterns look even better in the reflections!). Grab a warm drink, settle in, and let's go explore the city’s most beautiful glow-up together. We’re about to see how Vancouver truly "Braves the Wind" together! ☕🧤🌟 What is Let's Get Nosy? Ever feel like getting up close and personal with the best of Vancouver? Join us as we get nosy and explore the city's hidden gems, from the coziest cafes to the coolest street art. Get ready to dive deep into all the vibrant spots that make this city so! 🏙️🕵️♀️📍 #LunarNewYear #Lanterns #Vancouver #Canada #Explore #City
