...with an asterisk. Demon Fury is a very arguable move, it's a combo that takes a phys attack, a hunt move and a debuff spell to cause "heavy almighty damage with a defense down effect", that doesn't sound phys-y to me, buuuut it's affected by Tarukaja, but it's also not affected by power charge... neither mind charge, and also it can't crit, and the animation for it is arguable. This is the closest you can get to a true phys only method to deal damage to phase 2 so take it or leave it. Phase 1 is genuinely not worth talking about so let's discuss phase 2. Harihara's only real attack is a weak physical AOE, her other moves are ailments with varying degrees of severity, Dekunda and Dekaja. The cores surrounding her are the issue, each has an element, each has a press turn, each can use a tier 2 AOE or a tier 3 single target attack of their element, each nulls their respective element and passes those resistances on to Harihara, one of those cores is of the physical element, see the problem? There is also a combo move she can execute with the cores that seems to trigger when she has less than the max amount, usually seems to happen when she has three, I've rarely seen it happen in other circumstances. Lastly she'll revive a core every turn, without consuming a press turn. The cores have 500 HP and we'll have to really chip at them because Demon Fury deals around 40 damage at base, her almighty resistance is very high, fortunately enough stacks of Tarukaja and defense downs from both Debilitate and Demon Fury itself can bring that up to like 100, she'll constantly be wiping our buffs and debuffs but that's genuinely preferable to Hunger Wave and Vanity so they at least dilute her move pool. There's some protocol I came up with to effectively kill the cores and that is to not deal uneven damage, so if she summons another phys core after I kill the first, I have to wait until all cores come back before I even think about debilitating or clicking Demon Fury, you might realize in the footage that I forgot this protocol a few times. The idea is making sure all cores die at the same time to avoid reincarnation and decrease the odds of her calling another phys core. Once the phys core is out I simply click charged Gate of Hell until the battle ends, praying she doesn't make another phys core, though I do expect at least one to spawn (which does happen here). If you notice any sloppy gameplay during this fight chalk it up to me falling asleep at the wheel because this fight is boring, it's 26 minutes of arguments for an animation skip option and for you to never attempt a true phys only challenge, the difference between this and just allowing use of a -dyne spell, even if it's heat casting it, is night and day. I do not comprehend what kind of hatred Atlus had for the humble physical attack when designing this boss but it certainly makes me not want to repeat the dose in DDS2. Actually remind me to never do an SMT challenge run again this doesn't hit the same as EO.
