I return to New York after six months in Europe… and it’s not ideal. This isn’t my usual upbeat vlog. I’m warning you now: it’s a negative one. Much like New York itself, the vibe is tense. The food is overpriced. The apartment search is bleak. And I’m genuinely struggling to find anything good to say about the city I used to love. I reflect on the culture shock of Spain & Europe vs. the US. I rant about the NYC housing market, subletting and crime in New York. All of this, while trying to hold on to the peace I found in Valencia. But! It does get better. And there’s a timestamp if you want to skip the negging. Following on a reflective Ash Wednesday Mass and a Deus Ex Machina of an Upper West Side Studio Apartment falling into my lap, I squeeze in a visit to the Hungarian Pastry Shop and a bit of history on Soviet Patriotic Songs. Also: I may or may not be fleeing to Miami. TBD. Let’s see how this chapter unfolds.
