The North Coast 500 is described as Scotland's answer to Route 66. It's a scenic route of just over 500 miles (800km) following the coast around the far north of mainland Scotland, starting and finishing at Inverness Castle. The A99 runs from the A9 at Latheron, through Wick to John O'Groats in the historic county of Caithness in the far northeast of Scotland, a distance of about 34 miles (55km). This route was previously part of the A9, until the A9 and A99 numbers were swapped over in 1997 - with the A9 now running north from Latheron to Thurso and Scrabster port. This video shows a northbound journey along the A99 from a road junction near Freswick to the A99/A836 junction in John O'Groats - one of mainland Britain's most northerly settlements and the north-end of the Land's End to John O'Groats longest journey between two settlements in mainland UK. This leg of the trip was affected by a bit of fog off the North Sea known as the "Haar".
