Check it out...we can all play together now!! We wanted to record something all together to share with the boys’ elementary band teacher, to thank her for getting the boys started in the wonderful world of band. So after school today, we all pulled out our instruments and did an impromptu recording session. This is a piece that Sebastian (12y) is learning on trombone in middle school band, and he asked for extra trumpet and horn parts for us. (If it sounds a bit thin in spots, that’s because it’s a full band piece, and of course we’re missing any woodwinds or percussion.) Oliver (11y) just started trumpet this school year, and saw the music for the first time about an hour before we recorded (he even learned two new notes: E flat and G sharp!). And I’m playing the first trumpet part on French horn—it’s in a different key entirely so I’m transposing on sight, which I’m a tad rusty at doing. Ok, so both the parents are rusty in general after mumblety mumble years of not playing more than a few times a year, if that. It’s not perfect (on any of our parts), but not bad for a first try! Looking forward to many, many more family quartets in the future. Thanks, Ms. B! (disclaimer that I don't own the rights to the music, nor is this intended to be an actual performance or anything, just a family having fun)
