This BC Day Long Weekend, gangsters and trouble makers in Kelowna should beware. The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit will be present throughout Kelowna and Penticton and police presence will be stepped up in our city to combat crime on the August long weekend -- At Center of Gravity, On Land, and even on the water. While the authorities do not anticipate any gang violence this weekend, it is hoped that an increased RCMP presence in combination with CFSEU will help to curb any incidents that may occur. Last year, the CFSEU made contact with 47 different gang members in Kelowna over the August long weekend, though the majority of the gang members were cooperative. The enforcement teams will join forces with Kelowna's RCMP to conduct patrols in restaurants, clubs, public spaces, and Center of Gravity. Should the CFSEU spot a known gangster, it is likely that the person in question will be asked to leave the establishment or event for the sake of public safety. Despite increased gang presence in our community this weekend, members of the public should go about their live as normal. Public safety is the reason for the increased enforcement presence this long weekend, and the authorities have a stern warning for those who would put the public at risk.
