How to mount a tom arm without drilling holes in the kick drum

This video documents what I went through today in terms of installing a new tom mount into my custom made maple 12x20 Side Kick Drums kick drum. I removed a hoop clip (that served as a floating Tom system when placed onto a snare drum stand) and installed a Gauger Percussion RIMS mount onto the 8x10 tom. In the kick drum I removed two of the top lugs on the beater side and replaced them with a lightweight INDE tom mount that requires no additional holes drilled into the kick drum. The kick does lean if the ride cymbal is not on the kick drum to counterbalance the tom. But it seems to work and it reduced the gear bag contents by a little bit (every bit helps). Plus it brought the tom more to the center so the footprint sprawl of the kit has been reduced by about 8 inches. And with the INDE post all set for location and angle in advance it’s now a breeze to set up consistently—it wasn’t like that before. It’ll still require some adjustments but that’s what I’ll be doing in the moments before rehearsals for the next few times. That rack tom needs to be tuned… oh well…
