Alexander Bristow's channel to see what kind of illustration she might do. I was struck by the calmness and decorativeness of her work - though there was not a lot of work to judge from. It struck me that Helen is naturally more of a decorative illustrator, still telling a story, but her illutrations could easily go on cards or in picture frames in a way that mine can't - my work needs to be in books. So before I make a video about movement in illustration, I think I should make a video about knowing who you are and what you do best and being happy about that, and not spending your life and time trying to be someone else or to draw things that don't suit you because you feel perhaps you should. "Know thyself" is one of the Delphic Maxims from Ancient Greece, as apposite now as it was then. Anyone wanting to buy artwork or commission an illustrator is looking for you and your unique style, approach and "voice". Trying to be someone else will always be much harder than learning to be yourself.
