This video is an introduction to how I have used texture paste to add interest to a painting. The first thing I do.. when applying to a fresh canvas.. is to prepare the canvas by applying 4 or 5 layers of liquid gesso ... allowing each layer to dry thoroughly.. You can lightly sand between layers. This gives a more solid surface for your texture. Even better you can use solid wood panels for this type of work. I have also found that a cured pour painting offers a strong surface for texture application.. Examples of this will be in the best texture video.. I am using Golden Light Modeling Paste today.. .. building layers and dimension to the piece..using an offset spatula.. a pallet knife or even your fingers. These pastes can be coloured before applying if you prefer.. but check the manufacturers guidelines.. You can lightly sand the texture.. then add another layer of gesso before painting.. I will apply layers of light washes of colour.. or pour over parts of this texture.. There are many types of texture pastes and mediums and each has its own distinctive effect. You can create subtle texture.. or dramatic deep grooves that will take the paint beautifully.. and create more depth. I think it is great fun to experiment and add some interest to your pours.. The next video you will see how I apply paint to the texture.. I will let the texture dry completely before I paint. This will take a few days.. If you are not sure if the texture is dry.. touch the surface.. if it feels cool to the touch it is not yet dry .. Thanks for coming along this journey.. and for all your kind words of support.. You can reach me gburstyn1@gmail.com for questions or to find out how to purchase one of my paintings..
