Flying THE FASTEST Piston Single Aircraft in the WORLD

Big shout out to Brent Starr from CalFire for giving me a ride in his Glasair III! With a level cruise speed of 242 kts (278mph), and a Vne of 291 kts (335mph), this IO-540 powered screamer is the fastest non-turbo'd, non-turbine powered, naturally aspirated airplane in its' class. To be clear, there are faster airplanes in existence, and even faster Glasair IIIs in existence (check out the Reno Air Races), but many of these have turbos; I heard reports from someone that they even got up to 120+ in-Hg of manifold pressure. Some even have turbine or jet engines. All in all, the Glasair III is THE fastest aircraft you can buy or build that doesn't have the added maintenance of a turbo or turbine engine, all at a cool 14 GPH. Makes me all the more excited to be building one.
