Topological Matter Conference (TMC) 2021: Mn/X (X = Bi, Sb) intermixing disorder in the intrinsic magnetic topological insulators (MnX2Te4)(X2Te3)n studied by X-ray diffraction and bulk magnetometry Anna Isaeva, University of Amsterdam Van der Waals bulk heterostructures (MnX2Te4)(X2Te3)n, n = 0–3, X = Bi, Sb, constitute a recently discovered materials platform where the instrinsic long-range magnetic order of Mn (d5) meets a non-trivial electronic band topology. An experimental observation enabled by careful singlecrystal X-ray and neutron diffraction studies and STM is that the atomic sites in these materials are perturbed by the antisite disorder of the cations. The observed concentrations of lattice defects vary, but are, in general, considerably higher for X = Sb than for X = Bi. Consequently, strong variations in the magnetic ground state and electronic band topology have been reported for MnSb2Te4. We present our X-ray diffraction data on Mn1-xBi2+2x/3Te4, Mn1-xSb2+2x/3Te4, Mn1-xBi4+2x/3Te7 and Mn1-xBi6+2x/3Te10 taking into account the Mn/X antisite disorder. Then we relate it to the bulk magnetization measurements on our samples that diverge from other published results. We analyse the interrelation between the Mn sub-stoichiometry, the concentrations of the Mn/X defects and the magnetization characteristics of these magnetic topological materials. Experimental observations of the topological surface states on Mn1-xBi4+2x/3Te7 and Mn1- xBi6+2x/3Te10 will be discussed by Hendrik Bentmann. --------------------------------------------------- The Topological Matter Conference (TMC) focuses on recent developments in fundamental and applied aspects of broad classes of topological quantum systems and the synergy between them. Topics include topological insulators and Weyl semimetals, topological phononics and photonics, skyrmions, quantum metrology and more. The TMC is a joint effort between the H2020 FET-PROACTIVE projects TOCHA (GA: 824140) and SKYTOP (GA: 824123) with the objective to establish synergies and to mobilize the Topological Matter community. Intended to lead to an annual gathering, the first TMC will be celebrated in 2021 from June 28th to July 2nd. If the pandemic situation allows it, the conference will be hosted at the Eden Roc hotel in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain, including Plenary, Invited, Oral and Poster contributions. Otherwise, the conference will be virtual, likely with no poster presentations. For more information: https://topologicalmatter.org/program/
