We started our 24km trail from Pattipola railway station, the highest station in Sri Lanka, and continued across the Horton Plains grasslands, cloud forests, and crystal streams toward Ohiya railway station. This Pattipola to Ohiya hike is one of the most scenic long-distance trails in Sri Lanka, passing landmarks such as Thotupola Kanda. Along the way we spotted wild sambar deer, purple-faced langurs, barking deer, junglefowl, butterflies, rare birds, and even signs of the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Camping in Horton Plains was another unforgettable highlight. Spending a night at the official Horton Plains camping site surrounded by mist, cool mountain winds, and the sounds of nature gave us a magical experience. The starry sky, campfire warmth, and the quiet beauty of the plateau made it one of the best camping adventures in Sri Lanka. The next day we continued our journey to Ohiya, following the railway line with tea plantations, tunnels, waterfalls, and stunning mountain views. This adventure is highly recommended for hikers, trekkers, campers, and backpackers looking for authentic nature experiences in Sri Lanka.
