Featured is an instructive freestyle chess game between Magnus Carlsen and Victor Mikhalevski from round 5 of the Grenke Chess Festival 2025. From start position #630 the h-pawns are unprotected but not exploitable. Aside from a case of cornered knights, the arrangement is not far off from standard chess. In fact after only a handful of moves the position reached is quite similar to a Bishop's opening, or Italian game. The most interesting moment of the game was Mikhalevski's 19th move sacrificing a queen for a knight and rook. Would it be a brilliancy or a blunder? #grenkechessfestival #MagnusCarlsen #VictorMikhalevski I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8.
