Friday, 27 February 2026 For once, the weather forecast was spot on — unfortunately, not in our favor. Gray skies, passing pop-up showers, and that uneasy feeling that at any moment the field might get drenched. Still, a few of us showed up anyway. That’s what we do. Between the showers, we managed to squeeze in a handful of flights. I brought out the E-flite T-28 Trojan 1.2m and the A-10 Warthog Dual 64mm, determined to make the most of whatever airspace the weather would allow us. Visibility came and went, sometimes dropping just enough to make things interesting. That’s when the extra lights I’ve made a habit of installing really proved their worth — especially on the Trojan. In those dim, hazy patches of sky, the added lighting wasn’t just cosmetic; it was confidence. Orientation stayed solid, and that peace of mind made all the difference. I may need to consider adding formation lights to the A-10 next — today made a strong case for it. We wrapped things up just as the winds began to build, almost as if the field itself was telling us, “That’s enough for today.” Not the kind of day that fills the logbook with long, carefree flights — but the kind that reminds you why preparation matters, why camaraderie matters, and why even challenging days at the field are better than no days at all.
