NMMC union workers on a strike, residents suffer smelly woes

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is facing a new problem of unpicked garbage. The members of the Samaj Samta Kamgaar Sangha or the union of conservancy workers are on a strike within the organization for the last two days. The Union workers have refused to pick up waste, which has been causing nuisance to residents of the area. The workers have demanded a revised payment from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, which has not been met over the past four years. This prompted the union workers take the drastic step. However, the civic officials have informed that they will negotiate with union leaders regarding the demands. According to Dada Nikalge, Chairman, Samaj Samta Kamgaar Sangha, the workers have been demanding for same work-same payment, bonus, and arrears. Residents’ alledged the garbage has been creating nuisance among children.
