The History of Religious Intolerance by Matt Gray
A common objection to Christianity and religion in general is the history of religious intolerance. Is religion the cause of most wars? Is intolerance inherent in religion or is it a more general human problem? Is intolerance a result of Jesus’ teachings or in spite of them? What are the root causes and how should we respond today? Are the common examples of intolerance cherry picked or exaggerated and not representative of the norm? Matt Gray provides insight to help us understand the historical context of the political and religious environment in Western Europe during the 16th century. Matt Gray is a Church history and theology lecturer at Tabor College and is currently undertaking a PhD on religious intolerance.
