We’re Officially Whacked Out | Kitchen Floor Build #40

This week on the farmhouse renovation, it’s all about what’s under our feet… and wow, it’s a BIG one. Ben gets stuck into levelling the dug-out floor and tests out a brand new toy — a whacker plate (aka vibrating plate compactor!) — to get everything solid, flat and perfectly compacted. It’s loud, it’s powerful… and yes, we’re slightly obsessed. Then it’s trench time. Together we dig out channels to lay the waste pipes before rolling out the all-important damp proof membrane. Progress is finally starting to look like progress! We’re joined by Ben’s lovely auntie who helps us lay the foam insulation — but that’s just the beginning. We then painstakingly cut out tunnels in the insulation for electric cables, heating pipes, and hot and cold water pipes. Measure twice, cut once… panic slightly… repeat. After sealing everything up, our amazing neighbour steps in to help us install the underfloor heating — and suddenly this old farmhouse is one step closer to feeling like a real home. By the end of the week… we’re absolutely whacked out. 🥵 But seeing it all come together?
