Also we installed an all wheel drive 5-speed manual gearbox and a Mitsubishi Legnum transfer case. There’s a common misconception about the need for modifying (as in cutting and welding) the transmission tunnel, where you’ve got the exhaust and prop shaft located, when converting a Galant to all wheel drive. We fitted a set of OEM prop shaft mounts and were able to route the exhaust through the narrow factory tunnel of the front wheel drive Galant EA5A. There was no need for us to hack the body, all of the work we did is factory quality. We fabricated new mounts for the all wheel drive rear subframe, installed some nutserts for the all wheel drive fuel tank. The rear diff, prop shaft, subframe, drive shafts, all wheel drive spindles, suspension links, as well as the fuel tank we borrowed from a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. Also we welded up a new 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust system using the factory resonators and muffler. In this video you can look at everything that went into this swap, as well as the final result. This isn’t a perfect example per se, just our take on how this sort of job should be done.
