How To Turn A Pen Without A Lathe | Aluminum Pen

No Lathe Pen Challenge No Lathe Pen Challenge - This is my entry into the No Lathe Pen Challenge. I used a ceramic kiln to melt aluminum. Once I did that I poured the aluminum into brass fittings to act as a mold. I then used a press to remove the cast aluminum from the fittings. Next I attempted to drill and tap the larger blanks to hold a threaded screw to hold the blank to the drill press. The idea was to access the whole blank so I could reduce the material on the outside using a file and sandpaper. I quickly abandoned this idea. Next I took my longest blank and tried drilling a hole in the center. I then mounted it to the drill press once again. I was able to shape it some using the drill press and a grinder, but eventually went to a cheap 1 inch belt sander. I actually liked this method the best and it was the quickest way to shape the blank into a pen. I then cut the blank into two parts and finished the sanding. Once sanding was complete, the pen kit was assembled. Thanks for watching.
