Two men have died in a terrorist attack outside a synagogue in Manchester, which saw three other victims hospitalised and a suspect shot dead by police. Greater Manchester Police were called to the Crumpsall area on the morning of Thursday, 2 October, where members of the Jewish community were marking the holiest day in their religious calendar, Yom Kippur. The attacker, who was shot dead at the scene, was Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, a British citizen of Syrian descent. One of the victims, and another receiving treatment in hospital, are believed to have been shot by armed officers who tried to "bring the vicious attack to an end", the force's Chief Constable said on Friday. King Charles and the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer have described the attack as "horrific" and an emergency Cobra meeting was held on Thursday evening.
