New Baby Orangutan Maria is happy and comfortable sat with mom Leia at Chester Zoo. Baby Maria is getting more inquisitive as she gazes at her big sisters swinging above her. Her sisters Dot and Myrtle can't wait to play with her but Maria's protective mom Leia, knows she isn't ready just yet ! Maria for now is nestled in mom's warm hair and looks so cute as she sucks on her little fingers and toes ! The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild.
