A Vision for Burundi

In 2014 we began dreaming of taking our work to other regions of Africa. We started a conversation in our organization and asked, "Is our mandate really just about Rwanda, or does it go beyond that?" Burundi was part of that vision. Burundi is the hungriest country in the world. It has a per capita income that is one-sixth of the average of Sub-Saharan Africa—and Sub-Saharan Africa is at the poor end of the global scale. We want to focus on Early Childhood Education to get kids off to a great start and have a foundation for their learning in primary schools. We'd also like to be involved in Technical & Vocational Education, not just simply formal education, as we strive to empower and become a catalyst for change in an environment that is far different from Rwanda.
