Reporter Takes Cover As Israel Strikes Syria's Military Headquarters

Israeli warplanes bombed the entrance of the Syrian military headquarters and presidential palace in capital Damascus after escalating attacks from the national army on the Druze religious minority. Israel Katz, the Israeli Defence Minister, warned on Wednesday that his country would start launching major attacks against Syria. “The signals to Damascus are over — now come the painful blows,” he said. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad and the takeover of Ahmed al-Sharaa, who was formerly aligned with al-Qaeda, Israel has announced itself as the protector of the Druze minority who are mainly based in southern Syria. The air strikes mark the first time Israel has come into direct conflict with the new Syrian regime, which it has accused of attempting a massacre against the Druze.
