This unique one-sided disc dates as November 10, 1900. It was manufactured in the USA by what would officially become the Victor Talking Machine Company in 1901. Given its historical importance as an example of a very early sound recording on a disc format, I've played it only this once on my 1908 model Victor Talking Machine in order to record it and share it as it would have been enjoyed in that early era. The sound quality is somewhat acceptable, despite it being quite worn when I acquired it. Performed by: Arthur Collins Composers: Harry Von Tilzer - William A. Heelan Lyrics: A gal i knew, a nice gal too Till someone told her she knew how to act Then that baby blew ev'ry solitary soul Chasin' roun' to cheap theatres that's a fact At last she got acquanted with an actor Who was painted like a darky in the show And she followed him aroun' till the night they quit the town Then she said: please take me with you when you go For I'd leave my happy home for you, oh You're the nicest man i ever knew, oh If you take me and just break me in the bus'ness too, oh I'd leave my happy home for you oh He said he'd shake the show And take that lady with a comp'ny of his own But he packed his grip and he took a quiet trip And he left that little baby all alone He tried his best to skip her but she used to buy the clipper What the actor's news was in When she found out where he went Ev'ry day a note she sent This is just how ev'ry letter would begin Well I'd leave my happy home for you, oh You're the nicest man i ever knew, oh If you take me and just break me in the bus'ness too, oh I'd leave my happy home for you oh
