We went to Rooks Park today to pick Chokecherries along Mill Creek. Walking along Mill Creek we searched the tree line to find small Chokecherry trees. It can take up to two hours to get a gallon of Chokecherries or as little as thirty minutes. It just depends on how many cherries are in each of the clusters. They average about 1/4" to 3/8" in size so it really takes a lot of them to make a batch of jelly. They are a very tart cherry and are edible but most people would not eat them. To put it mildly they are an acquired taste but that all changes when you make them into jelly.
