Coordinated in Wales by BITC Cymru, Give & Gain Day is the annual celebration of the ‘power and potential’ of employee volunteering and the positive impact it can have in communities, schools and workplaces across Wales. Trivallis is co-ordinating 12 Give and Gain Days this year, the biggest of which took place in Ysgol Ty Coch in Tonteg. Ysgol Ty Coch is a school for children with severe learning difficulties and those with autistic spectrum disorders. The pupils at Ysgol Ty Coch come from all across the borough of RCT, and the majority travel by bus and taxis to school on a daily basis. As a result, many of the parents have limited face to face contact with other pupils, other parents or the teachers. This can be detrimental to families, leaving many feeling isolated and alone in adapting to a new way of living. Give and Gain Day 2017 Over 160 volunteers from Trivallis and partner organisations such as principle contractor LCB Construction, GE Aviation, and Welsh Government joined teachers, parents and pupils from the school to transform a disused former caretaker’s house on site at the school into a “Family Hub”. The “Hub” will act as a place where families can meet with staff and other families to share their concerns and experiences with people who understand and can relate to them.
