The region shown is described as having been given over to "maquis" - scrub land. Three people on horseback ride between two fields of dense vegetation. An inter title describes the splitting up of the area into sectors by paths of access and the machinery used to cultivate the area. We see large vehicles for ploughing and reaping. C/Us of machine used for ploughing. They are antiquated, bizarre looking machines. More modern tractors and ploughs are then seen. Intertitle suggests that the company Fortef have enabled the local people to cultivate their wild land. Horseback riders in a field. Views of crop fields. Thanks to systems of canals, the pestilent marshlands are dried out and fresh running water is used to irrigate the earth. Horses are seen as the camera pans across a landscape. Canals are shown. A man rides a horse through a stream. Large cement warehouses have been built and machines help the workers to process their crops. Straw is made into bundles, wheat is extracted. Men herd cattle through an archway. C/U of some of the cows - there are several different breeds. Horses are led past the camera. Fortef provide sporting facilities for the health and moral of their staff. Top shot of a group of men preparing for a cycle race. The competitors set off and we see them cycling through the streets. A man does gymnastics on the parallel bars, rings and high bar. Acrobatics - one man lifts another on to his hands so that he holds him upside down in the air. The cyclists arrive at the finishing line. We see the winners - one has a bunch of flowers on his handlebars - he kisses a young girl. We see the team of fire-fighters in action as some scrub land is on fire. A man on a motorbike and several firemen on the back of an antiquated fire truck leave the fire station.
