Hi, I'm Saiful Salihudin. I am a second year Masters of International Affairs student concentrating in economic and political development at Columbia SIPA. I graduated in 2014 with an undergraduate degree in economics, I then started working with the Central Bank of Malaysia as an economist and policy analyst. At that point in my career, I felt like there's a need for me to explore more about emerging economics and politics and policymaking. What's great about the MIA course is that you're not only learning about one field of policymaking, you get to choose your own program, and you get to meet so many people from so many different backgrounds that really bring in different experiences and thoughts into the classroom. Through SIPA. I managed to get a work placement and internship at the Security Council for six months. That was like a really valuable experience for me to be able to really c. So, doing online classes has been an interesting experience. It's definitely not the same. But having said that, I felt like the faculty in the school has worked really hard to replicate that classroom experience. Also, the student body has really stepped up. We have a lot of social events on Zoom. We have trivia events, we have virtual lunch to create that SIPA community that we all know and love. The big challenge that we're facing right now, as a generation, is that a lot of our problems are global and interconnected. This is why it is important for a lot of future policymakers to equip themselves with an understanding of holistic, human-centered policymaking that includes different layers of human experience and identity.
