The European Union and China are set to agree on Wednesday on an investment deal that will give European companies greater access to Chinese markets. https://www.eudebates.tv/debates/worl... The agreement has been six years in the making and forms part of the EU’s new relationship with China, which the bloc views as a partner but also as a systemic rival. #eudebates #China #EU #trade #investors #money #funds Negotiations, which began in 2014, accelerated this year and are set to conclude with a political sign-off during an online meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council chief Charles Michel on Wednesday. Xi was also due to speak separately with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. https://www.eudebates.tv/debates/eu-p... The EU-China agreement, which is likely to take over a year to enter into force, will allow EU firms to invest in new sectors and remove some joint-venture requirements. China is banning forced transfer of technology from foreign companies and has pledged to be more transparent on subsidies and bar state-owned enterprises from discriminating against foreign investors. An EU-China leaders' meeting will take place on 30 December 2020 via videoconference. In this meeting the EU, represented by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will together with President Xi Jinping conclude in principle the negotiations on the comprehensive agreement on investments. These negotiations were actively supported by the German presidency of the Council. In parallel to the EU-China institutional meeting, Chancellor Merkel and President Macron will hold a meeting with President Xi. This video conference will provide an opportunity to follow up on the 22nd EU-China summit on 22 June 2020 and the leaders’ meeting on 14 September 2020. It is part of continued engagement of the European Union with China. EU-China leaders' meeting via video conference, 30 December 2020 https://www.eudebates.tv/ #eudebates
