Early Life and Career Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest of five siblings. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a classical singer and theater actor, who trained Lata and her siblings in music from a young age. After her father's death in 1942, Lata began singing in films to support her family. Breakthrough and Success Lata Mangeshkar's breakthrough came with the song "Aayega Aanewaala" from the 1949 film Mahal.
