When I was passing through Sudbury Ontario about 32 years ago, I stopped for gas at a gas station / motel on highway 69. A man was playing his banjo on the front porch. He told me that when he returned to sudbury in 1945 after playing bagpipes in the regimental band overseas, he was working in the nickel mine and living in a rooming house. He couldn't practice his pipes there so he would repair to the slag heaps where no one would be bothered by the volume. One day he met a young woman playing a snare drum. One thing led to another and the two were married. Later, they purchased the gas station and added even later, added on the motel. This song was inspired by them.
