Hey guys my name is Masud and in today’s video I’ll be talking about which is the best university in the U.K. for physiotherapy? Now I was going to do a detailed breakdown of every single university and it’s attributes but considering that there are 39 registered universities on the league table and that they all teach the same principles of study it didn’t really make sense for me to go into that much detail. Instead what I will do is just share my view of why this is a very hard question to answer as it is all down to the relative individuals situation. I’ll explain by painting a picture for you.. Say for instance you came from a city environment and wanted to get away from your hometown to somewhere more rural with big open spaces and where people actually speak to each other on public transport.. well then you’re more likely going to pick a city like Plymouth or Bournemouth naturally.. But we can’t of course depend on this rule being consistent as some people may want to just stay where they are so will choose a university in their hometown, wherever that is. So that means that the demand for particular universities doesn’t necessarily depend on that university actually being the best university to study for physiotherapy but actually on the relative needs of individuals who fit particular university attributes such as: City living/ rural near the coast / village/ town Proximity of shops to uni Number of students in the university Selection of societies at that uni What kind of feeling they get whilst attending the open day of that university. What do the league tables say.. Therefore I guess what I’m trying to say here is that it is all down to someone else’s subjective opinion how good a uni is. The league tables which a lot of people tend to use as well as myself I should add, are actually designed by groups of individuals who rank universities based on 5 categories. One of them being job prospects, which should be the most important metric. For me anyway, but there you go, that’s important for me but may not be for someone else. But coming back to the point, if we were to take a look at all of the job prospects of the 39 ranked universities for physiotherapy, we can see that not one is below 90%. That means for every 10 graduates, 9/10 are in full time work or study after 6 months. The average across the league table would probably be slightly higher than 90% meaning that the likelihood of you actually getting a job after doing this degree which should be your main objective if you’re studying is actually very very high!! And considering that the physiotherapy course is held under strict standards that have to be met by each university for a student to become qualified by the HCPC and CSP that pretty much means it does not matter which university you go to to do physio! You can go to the ‘worst’ ranked university in the U.K. and still have probably just as good a chance as any other graduate because you get your work experience in the course, doing placements and meeting possible future work colleagues. So coming out of uni you’re pretty much already there. Please take your time when deciding a university and don’t overthink it. You’re getting the same level of education at each university but it will probably be just presented in a different way. Good luck and let me know how you get on.
