There’s a moment after a run that takes place while you’re holding a coffee that’s way too hot and your legs are starting to stiffen and the conversation shifts. The watch is off. The pace doesn’t matter anymore. And somehow, without planning it, the real stuff starts coming out. That’s the energy behind The Clubhouse Roundtable. Episode two is one of those conversations that reminds me why I wanted to build this space in the first place. No scripts. No talking points. No pretending we’ve got it all figured out. Just four guys—me, Santino Williams, Joe Hardin, Derek Sprau—and a guest who walked into the room ready to be honest: Ryan Reynolds. The original idea for this show came from pure frustration. I was tired of the polished versions of life. Tired of the highlight reels. Tired of pretending endurance sports exist in a vacuum where trauma, addiction, identity, and growth don’t come along for the ride. So we built something different. Think less studio podcast, more coffee shop after a long run. A little messy. A little loud. Occasionally uncomfortable. Always real. The question that set the tone came from Derek: What happens when you change, but the people who knew the old version of you can’t accept the new one? That question hit all of us and it hit us hard. Ryan talked about who he was twenty years ago: angry, bitter, mocking people who were trying to better themselves. Joe shared what it meant to burn bridges through addiction and then rebuild a life rooted in empathy and recovery. Derek opened up about relapse, trauma, sobriety, and finding his way back through ultramarathons. Santino reflected on cutting toxic ties and choosing himself without apology. And me? I talked about walking away from corporate America, quitting drinking, surviving two divorces, moving across the country, and building Run Tri Bike from the ground up. None of us are the same people we used to be. And for a long time, the world tried to convince us that was a problem. The conversation really opened up when we started talking about confidence markers. You know, those moments when you realize change has actually taken root. Ryan’s was running his first mile without stopping. Joe’s was speaking publicly about recovery. Derek’s was finishing a marathon at 152 pounds after years of self-destruction. Santino’s was standing in the Bellagio art gallery and realizing he had options. Mine was Lori telling me to stop shrinking and to be Puerto Rican, to be a New Yorker, to take up space. This episode isn’t about splits or training plans. It’s about becoming. About outgrowing old versions of yourself. About learning that growth can make people uncomfortable and choosing it anyway. And the best part? Ryan’s joining us at Hustle in the Heartland this October. We’ll be running together, sweating together, probably crying a little together. This is The Clubhouse Roundtable. Pull up a chair.
