Drunk Man Attacks Cops, Insists Sobriety Post AA Meeting With Bottle of Vodka

On October 1st, 2023, officers in Ohio received a call from a concerned citizen who reported witnessing a gold SUV swerving dangerously, nearly colliding with a sign, before pulling into a driveway. Law enforcement located the vehicle, partially on a lawn, with its lights on and the driver inside. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol. Despite claiming to have been returning from a support meeting and denying alcohol consumption, officers discovered an open bottle of vodka within the vehicle. Further interaction revealed the driver's unstable balance and difficulty in performing standard sobriety tests. Despite initial claims of sobriety and recent medication use, the driver's inability to complete the tests satisfactorily led to his arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI). The situation escalated when the driver resisted arrest, leading to a physical altercation with the officers. Throughout the arrest process, the suspect directed racially charged insults towards the officers, complicating the arrest. Following the confrontation, the suspect was transported to the local police department, where he refused further testing and was booked for OVI. The suspect had previously been charged with OVI in 2018.
