Hélène Grimaud, Pierre Boulez & London Symphony Orchestra Notes: The Baltic sea level is rising and the shoreline is now at least 20 m closer to the grave site noted by Edward Anders, compared with 2003. The rate of shoreline loss suggests the graves could be encroached by the sea in 2036. Current research being conducted by the Museum "Jews in Latvia", 6 Skolas str. Riga, and other sources available, indicate that a Soviet-era memorial, some 15-20 meters from the main memorial, is installed at the location of at least one of the graves in the dunes near Šķēdes. Edward Anders also notes the Soviet memorial in his research. Currently, several institutions, including the Museum "Jews in Latvia" and Liepaja Jewish Heritage Foundation, with support of international partners, are working to determine if the graves are still intact, to what extent there may have been damage done by the sea, and whether the graves are at risk from rising Baltic sea levels.
