Alien Crush was a two-screen video pinball game first released for the PC Engine in Japan in 1988, then subsequently for the Turbografx-16 in North America in 1989. It was the first of a two game "series" during the platform's original life cycle, the second being the arguably more popular "Devil's Crush". The "Crush" series was able to cash in on a video game trend that was still clinging to life in the late '80s and early '90s, that of "video pinball", which of course had grown out of the actual pinball craze of the '70s and early '80s, and which had been followed by Atari's console-ification of the category with their dedicated video pinball consoles of the 1st generation gaming wave in the late '70s. By "cash in", I mean that TG16 enthusiasts actually tend to view these pinball titles as some of the better games in the catalog, whereas pinball games of later systems are typically viewed as niche, novelty games.
