Marta Maria Marchese (Queen’s University Belfast). Quantum Hypothesis Testing for Fundamental Physics Quantum hypothesis testing, firstly introduced for quantum state discrimination, has found interesting applications to quantum channels and dynamics. An example of this is quantum reading, which constitute a quantum channel discrimination protocol with potential technological applications. Here we employ a variant of quantum reading with the aim to discriminate the dynamics of an optomechanical system subjected to unknown decoherence mechanisms. The set up consists of two cavities, one equipped with a movable mirror, in which we pump a two-mode squeezed vacuum light field. The two lights mode interact with the two cavities and are subsequently combined together by a beam splitter. By measuring the output modes, two Gaussian random variables can be obtained whose variance depends on the presence or absence of the unknown decoherence mechanism - constituting the two possible hypotheses on the dynamics. A standard χ^2 hypothesis testing is then applied. CTP Quantum Information Days (online), 22-24 February 2021. Center for Theoretical Physics PAS (Warsaw, Poland)
