Japan has carried out its first execution since 2022 — hanging of Takahiro Shiraishi, infamously dubbed the “Twitter Killer.” Shiraishi was convicted of brutally murdering nine young women in 2017, after luring them on social media by targeting those expressing suicidal thoughts. He offered to help them die — only to kill, rob, and dismember their bodies in his Tokyo apartment. Victims were between the ages of 15 and 26. The gruesome killings came to light after the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman, leading police to uncover a horror scene inside his home — body parts stored in coolers, mutilated remains dumped.
