The association's goal is to preserve the traditional customs and to nurture and revive the oldest forms of folk singing, such as ganga, which is one of the cornerstones of the culture of the Tomislavgrad region. The performers try to preserve the original sound and singing technique in order to perform the songs as they were sung by their ancestors. Duvno, and more specifically the Tomislavgrad area, has a long and rich history that dates back to ancient times. The region was inhabited by various cultures and civilizations, from the Illyrians to the Romans, the Byzantines, the Kingdom of Croatia and later the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Duvno is also significant in Croatian history, as according to legend it is the place where King Tomislav proclaimed his rule over the Kingdom of Croatia in 925. Tomislavgrad is a city located in southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina), near the border with Croatia. The city lies at an altitude of about 800 meters above sea level, which provides a continental climate with cooler winters and warmer summers. The region is characterized by meadows, pastures and hills, which favor agriculture. The culture of Tomislavgrad is deeply tied to agriculture and animal husbandry. Traditional crafts, such as weaving, pottery and woodworking, play an important role in the lives of residents. In addition, the region is known for hosting festivals and fairs that celebrate local traditions, music, dance and crafts. “Duvno polje, oko tebe sela” is a popular song in “na bas” style. It is characterized by two-part harmony. It is practiced across the Balkans with different regional variants. It is based on intervals of a third, quart, and fifth. The lyrics describe everyday life of the community and are strongly associated with the local identity. — About us – Balkan Polyphony is a field research project that collects traditional music from the Balkan area.
