Padme grips Anakin tightly, looking at him and pleading with him to listen. For the young Jedi, it is tempting, more tempting than even what Palpatine has offered, because it is what he truly wants. The chance to leave with Padme, and simply be husband and wife instead of Jedi and Senator, is his heart's desire. He reaches out and squeezes her arm, thinking of what this might mean, where they can go, and what this means for them. He glances down towards her stomach. Anakin: I don’t want to lose you. Padme: You won’t. Not here and not now. We can be a family, Ani. The words bring tears to his eyes. Before he realizes it, he is rising and guiding her back to the ship. They plot a course far away from the galaxy, somewhere out of the new Empire’s reach. They are not entirely sure where, but with the two of them together, Anakin feels at peace. Eventually, they reach the far corners of the Outer Rim, where they settle on a quiet backwater agricultural planet. There, the two of them shed their names and ranks. Anakin places his lightsaber far away. From there, Anakin finds work as a mechanic while Padme uses her education to find work administrator. It is far from an easy or a comfortable life, but it is a happy one for those who, at last, feel free of the shackles their roles in the Republic have put on them. It makes it easy to pretend as though the Empire isn’t a threat. But while they might enjoy this time of peace, the galaxy is not as fortunate as the Empire continues to expand its grip across the Outer Rim. More and more systems are brought to heel by force, threats, or deception. With the arrival of the Empire comes not just soldiers and stormtroopers, but also inquisitors on the hunt for Jedi. Palpatine gives these Jedi Hunters a special task: to track down Anakin Skywalker. The one who accomplishes this will be granted rich rewards. Although he has eluded him so far, he still believes that the darkness is lurking within him, just waiting to be unleashed. Over time, his children grow up to become powerful Force users, but rather than train them, Anakin instead teaches them to hide their powers. He warns that the galaxy is no longer welcoming to those with their abilities, and how to show it off will be dangerous. Despite that, they continue to live in a time of relative peace. His children grew up with friends in the village while their parents could spend their time as normal people. But though they might hide themselves, they can never truly hide their presence in the Force, and some Inquisitors recognize Anakin from his time as a Jedi. It takes years of searching, but they eventually track him down. Rather than engage him right away, they recognize how dangerous the young Jedi is and first contact the Emperor. When they report this to Palpatine and ask what they want him to do, he simply responds. Palpatine: Take everything from him. Eventually, one of them comes up with a plan and fakes a request for a damaged starship in need of repair. He contacts Anakin and says he is stranded in a nearby town, requesting that the Jedi go there to help him immediately. But once Anakin is gone, the Inquisitors waste no time and fall upon the town. The people have no idea what is going on, and many fall before they even realize what is going on. They cut through the helpless civilians, and those few with weapons are unable to do much except put up a futile resistance. Others try to surrender and offer to help them, but they too fall. By the time Anakin reaches the supposed crash site, he sees plumes of smoke rising up from the town, and his eyes widen. He immediately realizes it is a trap and hurries back. But by the time he arrives, he finds the town on fire and the people either have fled or have been killed. Anakin ignores this chaos and plunges into the smoke, searching for Padme and their kids. Their home is at the edge of town and already on fire, but there is still screaming from inside and blasterfire. That means they are still alive. Anakin rushes towards them but is immediately confronted by a trio of Inquisitors who ignite their weapons. Yet he does not cower. Instead, his face darkens as he regards them and readies his lightsaber. The blue blade glows ominously as they charge. But Anakin rushes to meet them. As the three swing their lightsabers, he weaves and parries their strikes before pushing them back. And then, once he weathers the first salvo, he goes on the offensive. He leaps towards the nearest Inquisitor and drives his lightsaber towards her. Though she blocks it, he feels his anger radiating off him.
