At the start of this film the Morgan family are riding on the responsible guidance of Charles Morgan Robinson Morgan who became Lord Tredegar in 1857 and then of his son Godfrey, Viscount Tredegar, known as Godfrey the Good. Godrey's brother, Colonel Freddie lived modestly at Ruperra when his father Charles moved to live at Tredegar House, but Freddie's son Courtney and grandson Evan were extravagant and with family death duties the huge wealth of the estate was consumed. No Morgan lived at Ruperra Castle after the death of Freddie in 1909. It was used only for hunting and shooting parties, but with plenty of servants to keep up the grandeur of the house and gardens. In 1934 Ruperra was the first part of the 56,000 acre estate to be put up for sale. Five years later with no buyers coming forward, the Castle was requisitioned for the training of soldiers.
