In this case study, Capture H2O walks through a high-impact cooling tower water savings project at a food and beverage manufacturing facility in Dallas, Texas. The site operates approximately 11,000 tons of centralized cooling capacity and was historically limited to low cycles of concentration using city water as makeup. By increasing cycles of concentration and repurposing reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate as cooling tower feed water, Capture H2O helped the facility dramatically reduce both water consumption and operating costs. The solution included installing pre-RO softeners to protect RO membranes, collecting and reusing RO concentrate, and polishing the water with additional softeners before sending it to the cooling towers. As a result, the facility increased cycles of concentration to over 20, reduced blowdown to less than 5%, and achieved over 13.3 million gallons of annual water savings, representing approximately $142,000 in cost savings—while significantly reducing reliance on city water.
