What is Context Switch In Linux | PCB | How Context Switch Happens | Appychip

Context switching is a process of giving control of CPU from one process to another process. When one process (p1) is using the CPU and its time-slice (t1) is over, the kernel takes over the control of CPU and save the context of p1 in PCB. Then the kernel do its work like disk access (if needed). After this the kernel decides which process to select next to give control of CPU. Process p2 is selected for time-slice t2 and when t2 is over its context is saved back to PCB. So this switching of context from one process to another is what context switch is.
