In which our hero revisits the other project he’s neglected. Well, it’s been a while since I’ve last turned, well, anything on the VW powered 1968 BMW R69S. It was so buried in the back of the garage it was near impossible to get to and with supply chain interruptions it was also hard to get parts for. With a little tinkering though, and a relocation of venue, I have been able to make a little progress on the bike that was once abandoned sitting on its side in a storage locker across the street from Jegs near downtown Columbus. Yea the tires are still very old, and yes I didn’t wear proper riding gear, but for the few 1st-2nd gear passes I made up and down the street it’s not really a factor. I’m pleased that the bike had not backslid in terms of the work that I did on it, and I can start moving forward from where I left off. I’m super thrilled that the kickstarter is working again, although all it took was a little fiddling with the trans, hopefully it holds out. It isn’t as easy to kick as a stock r69s but it is moving nearly 3 times the displacement and twice the pistons. Anyway, enjoy!
