Every 6 seconds someone dies from a Stroke. Epigenetics is an exciting field of research that has the potential to treat devastating diseases like Stroke. Epigenetic biomarkers could be used to diagnose a stroke quickly allowing appropriate treatment to be given faster and so promoting recovery. Dr Alex Trollope has a PhD in Molecular Biology and is a senior lecturer and researcher at James Cook University. Watching a family member experience a stroke has given Alex the passion and drive to become an Epigeneticist and conduct research into how gene regulation can be used to diagnose and treat severe diseases like Stroke.
