GetSportsFocus.com - by: Nick Round If you were to walk up and ask any Bellarmine student from the class of 2013, 'who is KO?' most likely they would laugh and immediately answer, 'Kenneth Olugbode'. But this is a tricky one, because there are three possible answers. As a member of the 2013 graduating class at Bellarmine, I saw three 'KO's' graduate in 2010, 2011, and 2013, respectively. The first 'KO', Kyle Olugbode, graduated Bellarmine in 2010. Kyle Olugbode humbly dominated each opponent he faced during the 2010 fall football season. He finished his high school career during the state championship game against Santa Margarita by carrying the ball 19 times for 100 yards and one touchdown. Kyle also scored a receiving touchdown on his only catch for 15 yards, and not to mention Kyle made three tackles on defense including one interception. Kyle's success on the football field and in the classrooms at Bellarmine earned him a spot on the football team at Stanford University, now considered the top football powerhouse in California over rivals Cal, USC, and UCLA. Kyle's incredible work ethic allowed him to develop himself as a defensive player at Stanford, and before the 2012 season Kyle was projected to start at safety, only to be sidelined all year due to injury. As Kyle recovers from injury, he hopes to earn back a starting role on defense during this new season where Stanford looks to make a serious run at winning a national championship. Along with Kyle, Kristoffer Olugbode (class of 2011) left his own mark on the football field during his junior and senior seasons, and started his basketball career at Bellarmine as a sophomore on the varsity squad. On the court, Kris helped Bellarmine win two CCS titles throughout the three years that he played, and led his senior football team to a 9-3 record including wins over rivals Saint Francis and Serra. Although his supporting cast might not have been as refined as Kyle's during his senior football season, Kris's raw talent led him to the CCSF football program, a program that is known for delivering products into Division 1 college football. His hard work at CCSF over two years has paid off, as he will play Division 1 football as an Idaho Vandal this fall. The Olugbode trio would never be fully complete without Kenneth Olugbode, a hard working, physical presence on the football field, and a defensive wall on the basketball court. Kenneth filled in the third spot on a middle-linebacking core during the fall 2011 football season that arguably could go down as one of the best linebacking cores in Bellarmine history. Along with Joe Gigantino and Brad Kuh, Kenneth worked tirelessly on defense to lead that roster to its second state championship appearance in three years, after previously putting Bellarmine in prime position to beat national powerhouse De La Salle during the first game of the season. Kenneth's great work ethic and great physical abilities led to his commitment to San Jose State University for football along with head coach Mike MacIntyre, but ultimately left with MacIntyre to play at the University of Colorado in the fall of 2013. The impact that this family has had on Bellarmine is monumental and can never be measured, and each 'KO' has left high school making their respective marks on other sports programs around the country. Not only are the Olugbode brothers great athletes in multiple aspects, but also they are top-notch Bellarmine students that exemplify the Jesuit motto 'Men for Others' in their everyday life.
